Mini guide for your trip to Hunza, a quick to do things so you get the most out of your trip no matter how short it maybe.

Getting Here

Daily NATCO buses operate between Islamabad and Hunza, other than that many private transport companies run a number of vehicles daily. Hunza is also connected through many mini buses and coasters both private and NATCO operated from Gilgit. The journey from Islamabad takes about 18 hours.

Where To Go

Numerous things to do and see, the Karimabad Bazaar is very popular among tourists for shopping and just walking around. Baltit and Altit Forts are not to be missed, boat ride on Attabad Lake is also among the highlights of the trip, a walk across the Hussani twin suspension bridges is nothing less than a treat for adventure lovers.

Where To Eat

Small restaurants and cafes dominate the KKH throughout Hunza. Most hotels prepare food on order. There are a couple of restaurants in Karimabad such as Hidden Paradise, Rainbow, Osho-Maraka, which have a good reputation. The small cafe at Borit Lake in Gulmit also prepares traditional food.

Where To Shop

Karimabad is the stop for shopping. The only place where there are numerous shops offering variety of souvenirs. The Baltit Book Centre in the main bazaar has a good amount of books on Gilgit-Baltistan. For everything souvenir related Hunza Art Museum is the place. For everything els Aliabad is the market.

Where To Stay

Karimabad has almost unlimited number of options to choose from. There are a few options available in Aliabad and Altit. In upper Hunza there are options in Gulmit, Passu and Sost. In the more remote valleys of Chapursan and Shimshal there are village guest houses and seasonal hotels.

KARIMABAD ULTAR GLACIER TREK

Take a path alongside the stream seen running down behind the Baltit Fort. The track crosses a bridge then climbs steeply towards the left, crossing a canyon. After mounting for another 5-6 hours it reaches a shepherd’s hut where one can stay the night. From there climb steeply to reach a point where the trail splits in two; both branches lead to the Ultar Glacier. On reaching the glacier the reward is a splendid panoramic view of the whole Hunza Valley.
